Gardening Club - Updates / Oct 2023

The Garden Project is moving along nicely. As spring approaches, we’re seeing a diverse range of plants, such as pumpkins, carrots, corn, oranges, tomatoes, spinach, and more. Students are actively involved in planting and watering.

For covering the costs, we’re in talks with Mrs. Rennie.

Gardening Club - Ongoing

Our upcoming garden project is a hands-on, student-friendly initiative designed to create a vibrant and functional green space. Here are some key elements we plan to incorporate:
  • Soil Preparation: We will engage an expert who can handle a rotary hoe to weed and turn the soil, ensuring a healthy base for our plants to grow.
  • Safety Measures: A portable stepping stool will be provided for safe access to the lower sections of the garden.
  • Soil Enrichment: We will add necessary soil nutrients, such as compost, to nourish the garden and boost plant health.
  • Soil Protection: Mulch, possibly in the form of hay, will be used to protect the soil and retain moisture.
  • Native Plant Section: We aim to include five advanced native plants to establish a bush tucker section in our garden, promoting local biodiversity and cultural awareness.
  • Plant Support: Stakes and growing apparatus will be incorporated for trailing plants like tomatoes to thrive.
  • Budget for Seasonal Plants: We intend to allocate a small budget specifically for the procurement of seasonal plants, ensuring our garden stays colorful and diverse throughout the year.

This project not only aims to beautify our school premises but also provides a great opportunity for our students to learn about gardening, sustainability, and the environment in a hands-on manner. We look forward to seeing this project come to life.
